Bryan Jerome Stevens is the fifteenth Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church installed on August 29, 2010. He is a native of Caroline County, Virginia and is married to Deaconess Jannette P. Stevens. They together have two daughters, Lauren Stevens-Booker and Terri Tolliver-Allen and four grandchildren, Olivia Bryann and Braxton Nathaniel Booker: and Patrick Tolliver and Zoe Allen. They are blessed to have two sons-in-law Barry Booker and Zachary Allen.
Pastor Stevens is passionate about proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ, making the Word of God relevant in the lives of believers, and building the Kingdom of God and the congregation and community. Since taking the pulpit in 2010, new members have given their lives to Christ and others rededicated their lives by rejoining the fellowship of Mount Zion Baptist Church. Special services have either been added or reinstated such as; Women’s Day Service, Men’s Day Service, Fall Festival (Friends and Family Day), Ash Wednesday Service, Holy Week Service, New Year’s Eve Service, Diaconate Day, and Valentine Gala. Also New Convert Classes, New Membership Classes, Senior Bible Study, Family Enrichment Bible Study, and most recent "AWANA"- Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15) for our children and youth!
Under his leadership, Mount Zion Baptist Church has ordained three Deacons and Deaconess, licensed two Associate Ministers to proclaim the Word of God. Several ministries have been birthed: Fellowship Ministry, Marriage, Seniors, Young Adult (CAYA), Crisis and Grief Ministry, Mass Choir, Mission and Evangelism, Worship Ministry, Children’s Church, Media Ministry, Transportation Ministry, and most recently the Drama Ministry.
Pastor Stevens acknowledged his call into the Gospel of Jesus Christ in November of 2004. His Vision Statement is PTO, Preach, Teach, and Outreach with the Word of God. He served as an Associate Minister of Christian Education at Second Mount Zion Baptist Church in Dawn, VA. He was licensed to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, October 14, 2007, he was catechized and was licensed as an ordained minister.
He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Averett University, with Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in May 2003. Additionally, attended University of Chicago Business School receiving certifications in Labor Negotiation 2004, and attended School of Arbitration in Clearwater, Florida and holds certification in Labor Arbitration 2004. He later went on to earn his Master of Divinity from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia in May 2008.
He retired after 36 years of service from Philip Morris USA, Inc., Richmond, Virginia in April 2008. During his tenure at Philip Morris USA, he traveled domestically and internationally studying various machinery technologies for the company.
Pastor Stevens was re-elected the Moderator of James River District Baptist Association to serve consecutive terms in July 2016. He effectively supports the association to rebuild its infrastructure and prominence into viable entity across the Goochland, Louisa, and Powhatan communities. He continues to serve on the Powhatan Ministerial Association Staff working to bring unity and diversity among all churches in Powhatan and the surrounding areas. He serves as a Trustee on the Free Clinic of Powhatan seeking ways to expand and provide healthcare to the less fortunate and underprivileged. He also serves on the Equity & Diversity Community Committee of Powhatan County Public Schools.
