“Reviving Our Roots”

In the Power and Spirit of the Gospel!

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Luke 4:18-19

Welcome to our 2018 Annual Homecoming and Revival Services Celebration. It is with great honor and pleasure that I extend a heartfelt welcome to family and friends to help us celebrate another Homecoming and Revival. We are excited that you have decided to share in with us in this praiseworthy worship experience. Our prayer is that you have come with a prepared heart to receive a “Fresh Anointing” of God’s Word!

Our theme and mantra for the advancing 2018-2019 season is, “Reviving Our Roots” interpreted from the Gospel of Luke Chapter 4, Verses 18-19The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4:18-19 {KJV}

As we move forward let us consider this thought emanating from the text, Jesus ‘comes’ into the world and to Nazareth in particular at the command of the Father who sent him. This brief clause shares something vitally important ‘where he was brought up’...where he was ‘nourished’ and ‘brought up as a child?’ Jesus’ visit to the synagogue (church) reflecting on his normal custom since childhood.

He came home as many of us are today, reflecting on how you once stood on the platform built by your forefathers, and it was Mount Zion (MZ) you opened the Bible for the first time, it was here you even stood around the walls greeting as ushers, sang in the choir loft, stood in the pulpit, or simply sat in the pews. MZ it was times of jubilation, love, joy and peace. Never forget your rich and prosperous heritage. We should never forget these paths of righteousness, in the power and Spirit of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is our prayer that each of you will earnestly seek the Lord our God, and when we collectively recognize that we “offer the Lord everything but what He asks of us: Our loving and obedient hearts as an example of Him.

Again, we are anticipating a wonderful, spirit-filed time of worshiping, praising, and glorifying God for all His marvelous blessings bestowed upon us over the years.  It will be most rewarding if you, your family, and friends would join with us in these services of worship and praise.

Therefore, let us do a self-examination of praying and asking God for forgiveness that our Church, Community, and Nation by “Reviving our Roots: In the Power and Spirit of the Gospel” of the Lord Jesus Christ. May God bless you and keep you - may His light continue to shine upon you.

Sincerely Grateful, Reverend Bryan Jerome Stevens, M.Div., Pastor
